B12 + CA18DET from Latvia! )) need some help

Hi Guys,

Sorry I don't speak Deutsch. But I hope you speak english and you will be able to help me, because I have decided to swap CA18DET in my Sunny B12.

In my country there is no resourses/expirience in swapping ca18det in sunny B12. So I am earliest explorer. This would be the first Turbo-sunny in my country!

As I know CA18DET engine stands on standart sunny engine mounts without any problems.. And Ecu and harness should be taken from 200sx.. The question is: How to connect CA18DET to sunny's gearbox

Just whant to know are there some problems or specific work to do for this swap??

Please give me some advices / usefull information that I should know..

You just need the engine from an S13 for example, because there are little changes made to the normal CA18DE.

The gearbox fit perfectly to the engine, the ca18det has got identical mounting points.

Just the exhaust and air intake has to be self-constructed, the turbocharging is the most important difference to the normal ca18de engine, so that´s the only problem because there are no standard parts for the B12.

Hmm, but the flywheel from ca18det is bigger than ca18de flywheel, and the mounts of plate in DET and DE are different, does the gearbox realy fits perfectly with flywheel, plate and clutch of CA18DET, or I should put on CA18DET engine - flywheel, plate and clutch from CA18DE to fit gearbox from sunny... ??

If you take all from/for ca18de gear you will be right, clutch etc. are gear specific parts.

And the flywheel you already have from your broken ca18de engine, so take these parts.

Probably it´ll work with other parts too, but iám not sure about that.

We have done this swap before...

It will be a lot of work, but you wil like it

We take the standard Sunny CA18DE Gearbox, with the 200SX Flywheel and clutch, and you have to change the trow out bearing.

If you need help with connecting the original wiring to the 200SX wiring I can send you some documents from our projekt, than you woun't have so much trouble as I at the first time

Yes you have to take the 200sx throw out bearing too.

We have only changed the ECU Wiring and connectet these to the original wiring of the Sunny ca18.

but why you didn't use standart flywheel and clutch from Sunny? it doesn't fit?

We used the clutch from 200SX because the clutch is bigger, and we think the clutch will be better because the 200SX has more power, we haven't try to fix the 200SX clutch with the sunny flywheel, maybe you can try it.

Hi guys again! Work slowly started to move forward... Ca18de engine was taken out, was bought ca18det engine, but it's almoust died, so at the moment and probably all next week I'll repair it (need new crankshaft, rod bearings). Also I bought ECU from 200sx and clutch...

At last engine is succesfully installed into my b12, but because of having lack of money and having extremely deficiency of time , I decided to drive some time without turbo .
wiring with ECU from 200sx will be only after month. May be someone knows or have experience if it's possible to start ca18det engine with ECU from CA18DE? The difference is only in compression and pistons, they are very different, also there is no ampflier or resistance in DE engine... What it is actually for?
So... any ideas?

I don't think that the car will run with the CA18DE ECU because conections are others. And than you don't have installed the resistor for the injectors, I don't know exactly if the Injectors are the same.

But when the engine starts I don't think it will run good because of the low compression.

yes... it actually doesn't start and I'm thinking because of what. Looks like it doesn't have enough power to turn the engine at the moment, when should be explosion in cilinders. starter almost stops at these moment.
What interesting - when i disconnect coils from spark plug in head, starter turns engine perfectly. and when I keep spark plug connected to coil but not twisted in, engine turns without any problems too...
With connections there are no problems, i put injectors from sunny untill I wouldn't get wiring from 200sx.
Exxx.... will wait wiring for ECU and resistor...
